ACIA History
ACIA became an incorporated Company in NSW in January 2005.
The Attendant Care Network Project was initiated and supported by a grant from the Motor Accident Authority of NSW, was auspiced by Westmead Brain Injury Unit and commenced in November 2002. The network was set up to address the following issues:
- What are the needs of the Attendant Care Industry?
- What are the specific needs for all attendant carers working with adults or children who have a brain injury versus a spinal cord injury?
- Who and how many are involved in the attendant care industry?
- What strategies exist or can be formed to meet the needs of the attendant care industry?
A Project Coordinator, Aleks Natora, was employed to develop and maintain the Attendant Care Network.
The project objectives were to:
- Develop a project steering committee representative of the Attendant Care Industry
- Develop and foster participation in an Attendant Care Network for NSW
- Define the needs of the Attendant Care Industry
- Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of the Attendant Care Industry through:
- Newsletters
- Email correspondence
- Conference/forum
- Training/education workshops
- Website development etc
We would like to thank all those people who worked so hard on the Network Steering Committee and whose efforts have led to an increased awareness of the needs of our industry.
